Dr. Maria Burwood

DIRECTOR

Maria is a strategic leader experienced in integrating sustainability priorities that foster organisational resilience, profitability, and growth. She works with organisations to navigate ESG, climate risk, and decarbonation.

She has led large-scale programs across banking, energy, infrastructure, and government, most recently holding leadership roles at Westpac and as Consulting Director in Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change at ERM Australia.

As an independent advisor, Maria supports boards at critical inflection points when compliance, resilience, or performance is at risk. Her experience spans climate reporting frameworks (TCFD, IFRS, CSRD, ASRS), governance and intangible asset value, with a focus on strengthening decision-making and embedding lasting change.

She is a Certified Energy Manager and member of Engineers Australia, AICD, and the Advisory Board Centre. Maria holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, and is a strong advocate to women in STEM, having advised the NSW Chief Scientist on education reform influencing the federal WISE (Women in STEM & Entrepreneurship) funding program.
