In a first for the Australian residential market, CSR Gyprock has recently announced the release of Gyprock Sensitive, a hypoallergenic plasterboard perfect for asthma and allergy sufferers. It’s also the first plasterboard to have both GECA certification (under the Panel Boards standard) and approval from the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice program.

With an estimated 2.3 million Australians living with asthma, and one in three suffering allergies, Gyprock Sensitive will be a welcome addition to any renovated property or new build.

Gyprock Sensitive is a 10mm plasterboard offering enhanced mould resistance and improved moisture resistance. With mould one of the most common triggers for asthma and allergies, Gyprock Sensitive is a good choice for walls and ceilings throughout the home. Gyprock EC08 Complete, for commercial projects, is also a Sensitive Choice approved product.

This plasterboard is mould resistant due to a powerful but gentle antifungal agent throughout its core, which penetrates the paper and subsequent decorative coating. The plasterboard core also contains a unique wax emulsion, which makes it resistant to moisture.

A recent study commissioned by Gyprock found that 35% of Australian households surveyed have experienced mould, with the bedroom being the second most affected room in the house, after the bathroom. Gyprock Sensitive is a good solution for both dry and wet areas such as the bathroom and laundry.

Today’s homes are designed and built to be more energy efficient and often use engineered materials. These factors can result in lower ventilation and increased indoor air pollutants, making the modern home a potential incubator for common allergy triggers.
